The Day After

What an amazingly total transformation in personality! Mrs. GooseyGander, now know as The Widow Lucy GooseyGander has completely stopped hissing and attacking the hand that feeds her(a detail that was left out from earlier reports - not wanting to dwell overly on the negative...). Wow! I can hardly believe it. Now that the badass gander is gone, she seems to have transferred all interest to us. She joined David, the two dogs and me on a long walk around the property - even going up to and walking on the road a short way - just as if she were a third dog. The photos here are of her later in the afternoon a few hours after the walk. I happened to walk by the door, and - surprise - look who is peering in at us! Looks like she is going to settle down and blend in just fine. That is good news.

The Almost Weekly Egg Report

Well, to make a long story short, Mr. and Mrs. GooseyGander haven't completely worked out all that well. This afternoon, Mr. G-G had to go to paradise, with the help of Noah who seems to be a bit of a natural at these things. Mrs. G-G is still here, already seemingly fairly subdued with her man gone. Hopefully, in the next few days she will settle down and join in with the rest of the happy roving band of fowl. Egg numbers are still way down - disappointingly so. Not sure why, but surely hope that the longer, warmer days that are bound to show up one day will encourage the eggs to roll freely once again. Planted a couple of flats of seeds the other day - leeks and onions. Oh, Joy! Earth and seeds and water and sun! Hallelujah!
